Work Description

Sculpture, as a medium, carries the artist's wisdom and contemplation. Observing nature reveals that the natural world offers endless potential for artistic creation. Crystals, a commonly occurring substance in nature, provide new possibilities for sculpture art.

The two basic growth patterns of crystal formation, layer growth and spiral growth, provide a structural basis for the formation of sculptural forms. The unique charm of crystal growth lies in its non-linear growth process, with the alternating presence of gas, liquid, and solid phases, resulting in an uncertain final form. This characteristic provides a new foundation for the integration of specific content and methods in sculpture creation.

The challenge lies in interpreting and reflecting the complex relationships between humans and nature. Through the study of crystal growth patterns and the application of unique artistic forms in sculpture creation, the aim is to break through conventional creative forms and provide insightful expressions on the intricate relationship between humans and nature, evoking resonance and prompting reflection on the past.

The "206" series is based on the 206 bones of the human body. Bones are not only a major component of the human body but also essential organs that support standing and walking. The creation of these works incorporates the two growth patterns of crystals, utilizing the uncertainty derived from the transformation between different physical states. The resulting forms are not linearly predetermined but rather generated with a certain degree of contingency. After the formation of these forms, they are further refined using the fundamental sculptural language, with proportions, spatial relationships, and details carefully considered and revised.

The work "206-LOVE" uses vertebral bones and rib bones as elements, and the regular variations of a single element create a visually pleasing sensation, sculpturally forming the shape of a heart. Bone and flesh are the foundation of the human body, but without love, the physical body is void. With love in the heart, harmony and coexistence with oneself, nature, and all things in the world become possible.

Hu Quanchun (Associate Director of the Sculpture Department, Central Academy of Fine Arts):

The criteria I choose are whether it is a complete artwork and how well it aligns with the artistic intention when using digital media as a means. The most important criterion for determining whether it is a complete artwork lies in the visual language and the exclusivity of its creativity. In the case of the artwork "206-LOVE," it is quite fitting in terms of its use of digital technology and the intention it expresses. The overall composition is warm and romantic, effectively reflecting the artistic intention.
